Doctor Sleep is the upcoming sequel to King's 'The Shining', due on shelves September 2013. Promising a return to "balls-to-the-wall, keep-the-lights-on horror," the novel follows a now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the young boy from The Shining) and twelve-year old girl, Abra Stone, who he must save from The True Knot, a group of immortal travelers who feed off children with the gift of 'the shining.'
Dan has settled in New Hampshire after drifting to escape his father's legacy, working at a nursing home and using his powers to comfort the dying. With the help of a cat that can foresee the future, he becomes Doctor Sleep, and once meeting Abra Stone, a war between good and evil ensues.
You can find the prologue read by Stephen King himself as part of The Dark Tower: The Wind Through the Keyhole audiobook, and the e-book version of the prologue with In the Tall Grass novella.
